Absolutely ridiculous that Jay was banned. And was the same for his first banning, but this time is worse.

I`m not here long, but Jay had annoyed a lot of people with his posts.
I`d say there is more than one reason that he got banned.
If you can`t hold you water and not descend into foul language, then you shouldn`t be here in my view.

foul language is ok, it can be used to re-empahsise a point..we all do it
offensive language is different (travellers references etc ) .
You need to differentitate between them. I fear this ability to see the wood from the tree`s has just been lost.
Jay would not delibertately offend

Well there were a couple of topics where Jay got involved with heavy verbals with others.
I`d say this more than anything say to it that he got a ban.
Again I don`t see the need for foul language when discussing hurling and football.
There is enough of it from some of the drunks that go to matches.
As someone else said elsewhere, it is a sad reflection of the country, the amount of swearing that Irish people do.
It`s a real sign of low intellect.

Oh for the love of jaysus, the fun police have truly caught up with us. Imagine that, people using bad language when discussing sport, and apparently it only happens in Ireland (I`d better tell everyone I know in Australia to keep it clean from now on as they`d be letting the side down ) .
Listen mate, you and some of your newer cohorts have obviously come down in the last cyber shower so you were not around long enoigh to discuss Jay`s Jekkyl and Hyde sides, but I can assure you as someone who has been on Clarehurlers for about 8 years that he was one of the more intelligent people here. If that means the place isn`t up to your standards, then sling your hook.
Trust me gaelic follwer, and I`m sure you are a decent and intelligent bloke, you will come across far far worse than Jay around here. Look at me for chrissake....

I don`t recall any. Jay was more the type not to listen to any sh*te from sanctimonious sorts, I found.

thanks for the support lads.
but this is 2nd time i have been banned in a month so there`s not really any point in sticking around where i am not wanted.
it`s his board and if he keeps banning me for tiny things then i may as well hit the road.
i see super star tradesman has been banned as well, it` s all getting a bit weird.
all the best.....................................

FFS, in essence, you`ve been given a very gentle slap on the
wrist, jay.
You are back here, aren`t you, and AFR has said and done nothing
to ban you again, has he?
It`s not exactly a case for Amnesty International, is it?
Lighten up and rock with the e-punches.
It hasn`t affected Hugo/Evo/whatever-it-is-this-week too much?
He`s been banned at least three times, give or take all the other
aliases he`s been messing with over the years : ) .

I`d have to side with jay on this one Nomad. Some of the bannings recently here have been very odd in comparison to some of the comments that have gone unpunished or not even been pulled up on. Why go to the effort of posting on an internet forum if theres a chance you`re going to be banned for making a sarcastic comment. Sometimes it does really feel like its one rule for some and another rule for others.

I have to disagree with you on this one Nomad.
Usernames become a cyber-identity and while many of us know each other (even slightly ) due to meeting at games etc, it is the reason for the ban that is at issue not the impact of the ban.
For a forum as respected and "long term" as AFR to maintain any sort of credibility amounst the group of posters that actually find it an important resource in terms of discussion we need to be very certain that the rules of engagement are not being interpreted "on the spot" by the gaffer.
It`s very similar to refereeing and the use of foul language, your interpretation may be different to mine and to players but our implimentation of the interpretations can have far reaching consequences.
A bit of consistancy is what`s called for and if the interpretation is seen to be consistant then it is up to the posters to determine if they want to be involved with a forum that implimentents rules on a consistant basis, whatever the rules may be.

Rock with the e-punches?!
In all fairness that`s a load of rubbish. Banning somebody for using the term `f-off` isn`t harsh - it`s blatantly ridiculous. I had plenty of time for jay and I`ve also recently jousted with Superstar Tradesman on a few topics and he was banned for an inoffensive and light-hearted quip too. The two lads generally had interesting points of view yet they`ve been jettisoned for the most trivial of things.
There`s a difference between moderating a board and over-zealously policing it. Censorship for the sake of showing who`s boss around here and a `it`s my ball - I`ll do what I want with it` attitude pretty much stinks and is more juvenile than any of the rubbish I post myself. I thought AFR was here to facilitate debate rather than act as a dictator, and an inconsistent one at that, but it appears I was mistaken.
I shall also take this thread as my cue to say so long and wish all the social misfits and freaks who roam these pages all the best.
