He was sent home for discipline reasons. The lad has talent but unfortunatly looks like he doesn`t have the cop on though.

You`ll get a job over on reservoir dubs as moderator. They love the whitewashing. Unfortunately the reference to being "Unfit to Train" didn`t relate to a sports injury.
Heard this story last week but decided against posting until it was confirmed elsewhere. Sadly, Dermot seems intent on not fulfilling his ability. Numerous problems to date with discipline in short career. Harmless, easygoing guy and probably the best player ability wise out of vincents in last 20 years but wouldn`t make top 100 in terms of cop on and dedication.
Aside from being a shocking waste of 100k, the whole idea of a Le Manga training camp with wags, wives, kids and general "hangers on" was a bad idea and problems like this were bound to happen. Not a good start to the regime.

Agree completely. It`s like a lot of other things in the G.A.A. Joe Kernan does it, wins an All Ireland therefore we should all be doing it. An appalling waste of money by the DCB especially in the current climate.
Diarmuid will not fulfill his potential in either code as he simply doesn`t have the dedication to make the most of what are awsome talents. A terrible shame.
As for reservoir Dubs let`s just say the mods have rather large chips on their shoulders. I`ve still no idea why they banned me as I didn`t breech any terms and conditions. I simply put forward a point of view that a moderator didn`t seem able to accept. It`s a joke of a site really.

Spot on there on all fronts. If they wanted a week away, why no somewhere like Breaffy House in Mayo. State of the art sports facilities, easy access for those who couldn`t make the full week, a fraction of the costs and as for the wags/kids etc, a joke. Guys who are only involved for last month bringing wife and 3 kids, guys flying out for 3 days...joke. The 80k saved by staying home (and supporting local businesses ) could have been used to employ a few of the panel as coaches as the law of averages states that there will be job losses amongst panel members like any section of society.
Dub 2, I think you`ve access to the necessary channels - maybe keep an eye out for its entry on the DCB P&L at end of year. Should make interesting reading. Either way, it won`t bring Sam any closer.
Re:Dermot, I`d still cling to the hope that time is on Dermots side. He`ll only be 22 in 2010 so things could get better over next 4 or 5 years and he`ll still be in prime. However, if he can`t cop on when given the intercounty platform and an excellent and dedicated coach/mentor like Mickey W, then I have my doubts.
On res dubs, unless you have the blue tinted specs and want to talk without any hint of dissension to the main stream view, then you`re at the wrong web address.

For fcuks sake the lad is only 20 years of age. He`s an amateur sportsman no harm in him letting off a bit of steam/having a bit of craic. He`ll be training and playing long enough.
Would you rather he turned out like one of the (ex ) cork hurlers eating pasta and drinking water all day and taking himself far too seriously?

Don`t believe I was overly harsh on him. I did refer to his youth etc and made it clear that he`s certainly no thug. My main issue would be the money wasted in brings 100+ people to LA Manga and p**********************ing away good money especially if guys are going to get themselves sent home.

Yeah the Mods on reservoirdubs are some pack of fools alright. A discussion on this wasn`t allowed and when someome posted an Indo article about this story on the website , the only replies were to take it down in case the press get a hold of it !!!
As for Dermo , I din`t think he has the smarts to Cut it. A big shame though has he certainly has the skills. I see the Herald reckons he will still be part of the League squad.

what do they expect ???? if it priests they want they should recruit in maynooth. these training camps are suppose to be team building and if lads cant blow off a bit of steam then this game has gotten far too serious ......another media frenzy over a trivial matter....come august there wont be a word about it when the dubs make their annual gallant semi final exit

Unless of course they were explicity told what the purpose of the week was for and what was allowed and what was not allowed. I am sure if it is for discipline matters than it is more of a case of blowing steam at the wroing time rather than just blowing off some steam per se !!

gola,
i tend to agree with u. not every player is a sean og o`hailpin or a kieran mcgeeney in terms of the lifestyle they lead in order to be an inter county player.
i gather he is far from the worst lad in the world and loves his football and indeed hurling. he messed up at an overseas training camp. big deal.
i wonder he is good enough for the hurling panel if he devoted a bit more time to the hurling?? I am unsure. dubliner 2 maintained he was a few weeks back on another thread

You gotta be joking. 470,000 over 3 years.
Anyone see his performance in front of PAC. Far from impressive and that was just on the day before you analyse his tenure as part of the FAS board itself.
47k over 3 years but 470,000!!!!!!!!! This country became fat, bloated and caring little for the value of money following a few years of a boom. The knockers can no longer say that GAA is not in touch with Modern Ireland.

I`m gonna run against the vein here and say that bringing the wags was a good idea by the Dublin management. These are the same women who`ll have to put up with their other halves being absent for 8 months of the year through inter-county football commitments.
Mightn`t be such a big deal for WAGs who are interested in football but its different when they`re not. Can put a large strain on a relationship, especially if they have a young family.
I think it was a nice gesture by the DCB, showing they appreciate the commitment these women make as well.
