During their GAA 2012 Launch at Croke Park, TV3 announced Kerry football legend, Darragh Ó Sé, has joined the TV3 team as the station’s newest GAA expert (replacing Tyrone’s Peter Canavan as he embarks on his first Championship summer as a senior inter county manager with the Fermanagh footballers).
Ó Sé will make his TV3 debut this Sunday (June 3rd) from a new pitchside presentation area as TV3 feature the All Ireland champions Dublin against Louth in the Leinster Championship at Croke Park.
During his 12 years as a Kerry player, Darragh Ó Sé played in nine All-Ireland finals winning six, he also picked up four All-Star awards, nine Munster titles and three National Football League titles. Now Darragh is part of a new team, joining existing GAA presenter Matt Cooper and the panellists on TV3 – one of the GAA’s Official Broadcast Partners.
During the launch in GAA HQ – Croke Park, which was attended by some of the biggest names in Irish Sport, TV3 unveiled its plans for the summer of live GAA Championship coverage, including a more hands-on approach from the panellists themselves. This season, GAA supporters can expect to meet the panellists in the stadium mixing with the crowds and soaking up the atmosphere on Match Days, to find out what the fans think about some of the biggest matches and players in GAA for the game ahead.
Commenting at the launch today Kieran Holden, TV3’s Sports Editor said “We are thrilled to be heading into our fifth year as a GAA broadcaster. This year we want our viewers to be closer to the action as we attempt to bring the buzz, the colour and the excitement of a big Championship match day to their living rooms. We will continue to provide cutting edge analysis of our live matches in a vibrant, incisive and thought provoking way.”
Commenting on TV3's live matches Páraic Duffy, GAA Director General said: “The GAA is looking forward to another great Championship season and is delighted that TV3 is a very strong partner in bringing the Championship experience into supporters’ homes. 2012 will be an exciting year and with the insightful analysis that TV3 provides it should prove to be another great GAA Summer.”
TV3 is committed to Gaelic Games in a consecutive summer busy summer of sport, TV3 will continue to keep GAA followers in the loop, with GAA content during Ireland AM, TV3 News and online, and for the fifth, we will produce a Championship magazine programme. The GAA Show hosted by TV3's Gaelic Games Correspondent Kieran McSweeney see it first on Friday evenings at 6.30 on 3e, as well as late night slot on Fridays on TV3 and on Saturday mornings.
Earlier this month, TV3 announced that it will broadcast nine live championship matches this summer including the provincial football finals in Munster, Connacht and Ulster. The pick of the All-Ireland qualifiers will be live on TV3 as well as two All-Ireland Quarter Finals.
