Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, has today unveiled a portrait of the late Con Houlihan by Mike O'Donnell in Castleisland Library, County Kerry.
Jimmy said: "I am delighted to be here this evening to unveil this portrait of Con Houlihan. Con was a remarkable man - remarkable for his writing, for his insight, and for the breadth of his knowledge not only on sport but on the arts as well. It was an honour to get to know Con when I produced with Maurice Healy a documentary about him, screened again recently following his death. At that time I saw at first hand his wit and intellect, and above all his deep love of his native county Kerry. With Councillor Bobby O'Connell I was delighted to help erect a bust of Con in Castleisland. This portrait is another important way in which the people of Castleisland - and all of us who knew and respected Con - can remember him."
